Operation Blue Lotus Stops Over 4,000 Pounds of Fentanyl in First Month

DHS issued an update today on Operation Blue Lotus as part of the Biden Administration’s significant and historic actions to disrupt the trafficking of synthetic drugs, representing a major contribution to a government-wide effort to save lives and pursue justice and accountability. In its first month, Operation Blue Lotus, a coordinated U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) surge operation, has stopped over 4,000 pounds of fentanyl at ports of entry, where more than 90 percent of fentanyl is trafficked in cars and trucks.

2023 International Hazardous Materials Response Teams Conference

The Hazardous Materials Committee of the International Fire Chiefs Association is happy to welcome attendees back in person for HAZMAT 2023! The International Hazardous Materials Response Teams Conference (HAZMAT) is a four-day event that will be held this year at the Hilton of Baltimore, Maryland from June 8-11, 2023, with an additional pre-conference day on June 7, 2023. Attendees are provided the latest classroom, hands-on, and field trip-based training on topics covering all aspects of HAZMAT.

Collaborative Reform Initiative (CRI)

The Collaborative Reform Initiative encompasses three technical assistance programs offering expert services to state, local, territorial, and tribal law enforcement agencies to support effective community policing. This continuum of services is designed to build trust between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve; improve operational efficiencies and effectiveness; enhance officer safety and wellness; and develop and disseminate evidence-based, promising, and innovative public safety practices. The 2023 CRI program offers open solicitations in two areas – Critical Response and Organizational Assessments.

Office of Emergency Management Has Not Deployed a Functional Last-Resort Emergency Communications System

 The VA Office of Inspector General (OIG) received a hotline complaint stating that the resilient high-frequency radio network (RHFRN) system was not functioning as intended. The OIG substantiated the complainant’s allegation that the RHFRN was not functioning as intended. Although the OIG did not identify fraud or abuse, VA funds were wasted because the network was not operational.
