Rockville MD- October 20, 2004-20/20 GeneSystems, Inc. -The BioCheck™ Powder Screening Kit provides a rapid screen for the possible presence of multiple bioterrorism agents such as anthrax, ricin and botulinum toxin, while ruling out most of the ordinary substances that citizens have frequently feared to be possible weapons of mass destruction (WMDs).

The patented technology used in the BioCheck product requires no instruments and helps first responders determine in five minutes or less whether testing for one or more specific pathogens or toxins is warranted. The kit has been effective in ruling out such mundane substances as drywall dust and powdered sugar that lead citizens to call 911.

This limits the number of samples requiring more time consuming and costly specific agent testing. The Center for Domestic Preparedness recommends protein and pH tests in the initial investigation of suspicious powders. The BioCheck Kit is currently in use by more than 200 first responder teams nationwide including fire departments in major jurisdictions and a dozen federal agencies.
