308 SYSTEMS TAC-PAKs Improve U.S. National Guard Response

With America’s war on terrorism raging at home and abroad, our military demonstrates its versatility by organizing and equipping new units to respond to national requirements in the United States. However; the military does not accomplish this alone, it receives help from innovative U.S. businesses.  Recently, the U.S. Army National Guard Bureau (NGB), J333 Defense Support of Civil Authorities deployed Disaster Response Teams armed with 308 SYSTEMS TAC-PAK Briefcase Command Systems in response to two natural disasters.

The NGB teams are prepared to deploy immediately to natural disasters or major incidents.  To improve their deployment speed and ‘command and control’ the NGB equipped their teams with customized, lightweight, mobile TAC-PAKs.  Their new TAC-PAKs arrived in time for two of the deployable teams to receive training and deploy in support of Hawaii’s 6.3 magnitude earthquake and Puerto Rico’s mid August tropical storms.

The TAC-PAKs enabled the disaster response teams to operate with or without infrastructure, important after an earthquake causes a power and cellular blackout.  Using TAC-PAK capabilities such as on-scene Internet, print, scan and fax, the teams were able to provide immediate situational reports to their remote Operations Centers.  Additionally, they demonstrated the TAC-PAK’s ability to enable on-site sharing of cellular and satellite Internet connections with multiple users. This feature enabled the teams to enhance local communications with other organizations and share a “reach-back” capability to operations centers via email and video conferencing.  Since receiving their TAC-PAKs the NGB has deployed in operational missions and training from Guam to Oregon.
