HOUSTON - The Port of Houston Authority
(PHA) has awarded BAE Systems a contract of up to $3 million to
provide security infrastructure enhancements for its facility in
Houston, Texas.
The three-year project includes
engineering and construction services that enhance the security of
the PHA facilities. The job includes installation of closed
circuit television camera systems, perimeter surveillance and
monitoring, fencing, lighting and wide area network connections
between the security agencies that use the facility. With federal
funding from port security grants, the work is occurring at the
Port's Care, East Industrial Park and Sims Bayou Terminals.
"Stepping up security so that we
can meet current and potential challenges continues to be a
priority for the PHA," said Thomas Kornegay, executive
director for the Port of Houston Authority. "We are pleased
to move into this phase of the security project. BAE Systems
performed well on the Port Coordination Center and we are
confident in this project as well."
BAE Systems completed the previous
contract for the PHA's new Port Coordination Center that became
operational in mid-2004. "BAE Systems is committed to the
long-range security plans for PHA," said BAE Systems' program
manager David Rohde. "We bring an experienced team -- both
internally with BAE Systems, and externally with the Houston-based
small-businesses who were a major source for the success of the
previous contract."
