McLean, Virginia – The emergency management community recognized three Booz Allen employees for their work in the field at the 59th International Association of Emergency Mangers (IAEM) Conference in Las Vegas, Nov. 11-18.
Kay Goss and Kelly Discount Inducted into inWEM Hall of Fame: The International Network of Women in Emergency Management (inWEM) inducted Booz Allen’s Kay Goss and Kelly Discount into the inaugural of the International Women in Homeland Security and Emergency Management Hall of Fame. Goss, a DomPrep40 member, was recognized for her role as the first woman to serve as the Associate Director of FEMA in 1994. Discount was recognized for founding EMPOWER, the first modern day organization for women in emergency management. Goss and Discount entered the hall of fame with 18 other leading women in the emergency management field.
Goss, a senior associate for emergency management and homeland security at Booz Allen, is responsible for mission support, emergency preparedness, higher education, workforce development and professional training. Discount is a senior emergency preparedness specialist in Booz Allen’s Business Assurance Office, leading the implementation of an online business continuity planning and response information solution, and responding to incidents that affect Booz Allen’s 25,000+ employees and 100+ facilities world wide.
Chris Bell Named Certified Emergency Manager: Booz Allen associate Chris Bell was also recognized at the IAEM Conf. for completing the requirements necessary to become a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM®). Among the requirements to achieve CEM certification are at least three years of experience in the field of emergency management, including participation in a full scale exercise or actual disaster experience during that time; 100 hours of training in emergency management training and 100 hours of general management training; and designated contributions to the profession.
At Booz Allen, Chris Bell serves on the Disaster Preparedness, Planning and Exercise Team. In this capacity he has been responsible for the design, execution and facilitation of exercises for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Transportation Security Administration and the United States Coast Guard. He has also supported Humanitarian Assistance / Disaster Relief training of the United States Marine Corps and provided International Organization / Non-Governmental Organization expertise to the Department of the Army -Mission Command Battle Lab.
