In the past few months, our students have had multiple opportunities for exposure to the emergency management field. To name a few, they served as exercise evaluators in a mass prophylaxis exercise for H1N1 and seasonal flu, planned and ran their own tabletop exercises for the Boston area, served as panelists in a closed workshop for the CDC and HHS in DC addressing the issue of mandatory vaccination of healthcare workers, and were briefed by emergency managers at the Boston EOC.
According to U.S. News and World Report (usnews.com), emergency management is ranked in the top 50 careers for 2010 and the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects an additional need of 43% by 2018. 52% of jobs posted in the emergency management field prefer a Master’s Degree.
