AMHERST, New York – The Main-Transit Fire Department, which operates across the Buffalo, NY, suburb of Amherst, announced today the adoption of first responder technology CommandScopeTM to assist in saving lives and property in cases of emergencies. CommandScope, developed by Chicago-based RealView, LLC, is a pre-plan technology that provides first responders with critical knowledge of buildings, the property and the occupants inside.
“We started using CommandScope on a preliminary basis, digitizing our paper pre-plans,” said Captain Adam Karl of the Main-Transit Fire Department. “All of our detailed information can now be easily updated and then accessed in the event of an incident. We also can share it with our local law enforcement and mutual aid fire departments.”
CommandScope provides first responders with instant en route access to site plans, floor plans, hazardous material details, utility shut-off locations, geographical maps, fire hydrants locations, and other critical building and infrastructure information.
“Our district can be a complicated maze to navigate for any first responder, but especially for mutual aid departments unfamiliar with it,” Captain Karl continued. “Like many districts, we have everything from residential to commercial real estate and industrial properties, as well as several major highways that cut through. But we also neighbor Buffalo-Niagara International Airport.”
With CommandScope all of the information is both shareable and updateable in real time. So even if a response team has never been to the property before, those responders will have working knowledge of the building, its occupants, and hazards.
“It is imperative for first responders to have access to vital pre-plan information,” said Lucas Schwaller, vice president at RealView. “CommandScope provides user-friendly, inexpensive technology that educates responders from every direction and arms them with the knowledge they need to save both lives and property.”
