California Hospitals Use CommandAware Incident Management System in Golden Guardian Statewide Disaster Exercise

SAN DIEGO - Concerro, Inc., the market leader in enterprise-wide hospital shift and emergency workforce management software, is pleased to announce the successful use of its CommandAware® hospital incident management system during the 2010 Golden Guardian Statewide Exercise Series, held in California on May 18th. The drill is the sixth statewide homeland security and disaster preparedness exercise in the annual Golden Guardian Exercise Series and is the largest statewide exercise program of its kind in the country.

Chris Van Gorder, president and CEO of Scripps Health, commented, "The fact that each leader can communicate to their constituents directly gives them an important role to play. Using CommandAware made for an organized approach."

The drill simulated a terrorist attack at the Port of Redwood City, providing an opportunity for city, state, county and national agencies to train and rehearse in disaster and terrorism preparedness for a large scale emergency. Over 200 individuals from approximately 20 hospitals, including several Scripps hospitals and University of California San Diego (UCSD) Medical Center facilities, activated the CommandAware web-based incident management system to ensure effective emergency response and collaborative networking for the drill.

“The ability to communicate in a well structured framework allows for less distractive chatter in the command center,” said Patty Skoglund, Administrative Director, Disaster Preparedness for Scripps Health. “The HICS framework provides a reminder of critical tasks and the template for command and control. The ability to capture data information including capacity of beds, supplies and staffing in one central location allows for our healthcare system to analyze all sites at one time. The availability of this information decreases the need to report via phone and email status update.”

CommandAware is the most comprehensive and widely adopted hospital-centric incident management system available to hospitals today. Currently adopted in over 250 facilities and government entities across twelve states, CommandAware addresses all phases of disaster response including preparation, mitigation, response and recovery.
