Cassidian Communications and Avaya Join Forces to Develop and Deploy Next-Generation i3 Solutions for 9-1-1 Call Centers

Temecula, CA — Cassidian Communications, an EADS North America company, the market leader in public safety communications solutions, and Avaya, a global leader in business communications and collaboration solutions, have entered into a strategic agreement to develop next generation (NG) National Emergency Number Association i3 (NENA i3) standards-based solutions focused on national public safety requirements.

“The development of these joint solutions will embody the best of our current and joint emergency call handling portfolio, providing a cost effective solution to address next generation data requirements in emergency call center deployment,” said Jeff Wittek, vice president of business development, Cassidian Communications. “These solutions will be highly reliable with additional options for geo-diversity, increased availability and local survivability. They will also be fully i3 compliant with voice and data fully integrated, enabling increased efficiency that will better equip our nation’s 9-1-1 call takers.”

Leveraging the experience and market share both companies hold in the US public safety market, the solution will take advantage of technologies and best practices for IT and data centers, such as virtualization and thin clients to reduce total cost of ownership. Cassidian Communications customers will be able to seamlessly and cost effectively migrate to these solutions as appropriate for their environment and as part of their natural upgrade or replacement cycles.

“We are committed to public safety and to ensuring the highest level of investment protection and least amount of disruption to our customers as they evolve to the capabilities of our next generation solutions,” continued Wittek. “This joint effort will bring the significant R&D capability and capacity needed to address the next generation ESINet and 9-1-1 call center requirements, positioning the two companies with the competitive edge needed for today’s marketplace.”

“For decades, Avaya has provided communications solutions with the reliability to meet the critical demands of public safety,” said Enzo Signore, vice president, Unified Communications Product Management, Avaya. “As the options enabling people to communicate dramatically increase, it’s imperative that public safety organizations have the technologies that enable effective and efficient response.

“Through the relationship with Cassidian Communications, we can take public safety to a new level by integrating multimedia, session-based communications technologies that enable an intelligent response to disasters. Avaya Aura®, a SIP-based, open standards unified communications platform is a great foundation to support the NENA i3 vision of an open standards based environment along with our ecosystem of next generation public safety developer partners like Cassidian Communications,” continued Signore.

Cassidian Communications continues to serve clients ranging from public safety operations to Fortune 1000 corporations to federal agencies. Collectively, the company has more than 40 years of experience deploying 9-1-1 call processing solutions, notification solutions and first-responder digital trunked radio networks.
