San Diego – The Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT) San Diego today announced plans to award technology transition assistance to Department of Defense (DoD)-funded technologies developed principally in small companies and that can be adapted to meet the needs of first responders. Awards may include funding for product development finalization, test and evaluation, market studies, access to investors, and other business development services. All award applications will be accepted starting at 8 a.m. (PST) April 1 through May 1, 2008 at 4 p.m. (PST). San Diego Sate University Research Foundation, the CCAT Program Manager, in partnership with the Office of the Secretary of Defense’s (OSD) Homeland Security and America’s Security Affairs’ 1401 Technology Transfer program and SPAWAR Systems Center San Diego, will seek out post-prototype stage SBIR, DARPA or other Department of Defense funded technologies for transition to first responder agencies; i.e., fire, police, etc.
Technologies of particular interest will focus on Command, Control and Communication (C3) including: (1) automated situational awareness; (2) voice and data processing technologies; (3) automated personal location; (4) cross-agency automated vehicle location; (5) automated knowledge boards; and (6) biomedical health monitors. In order to accelerate the technology transition process, all awards will be tailored to the specific needs of each award recipient. CCAT will announce awards by July 1, 2008. Awarded technologies will be subjected to demonstrations and beta tests by first responder agencies within the Southern California region. The resulting evaluations will be made available to the program sponsors, participating agencies and the product technologists themselves.
