CHHS Connects With Maryland Tech Firm to Enhance Cybersecurity Ventures

Formalizing a partnership with the KEYW Corporation, the University of Maryland Center for Health and Homeland Security (CHHS) was recently awarded a contract to pilot a cybersecurity policy training course. KEYW is a world renowned technology company, headquartered in Hanover, Md., that develops technical capabilities and solutions for the public and private sector. CHHS, a non-profit consulting and academic group, has extensive expertise in navigating complex cyber issues through academic coursework, legislative proposals, and consultation with government commissions.

Under the contract, CHHS will develop and deliver a pilot program on cybersecurity policy for KEYW clients who include the intelligence community, law enforcement officials, and corporate leadership. While KEYW routinely instructs clients in technical aspects of cybersecurity, CHHS will bring knowledge of current laws that can affect how an organization or business handles cyber threats, as well as how to develop policies to govern effective cyber habits.

CHHS is one of the region’s top educational resources for law and policy in cybersecurity. In 2012, under Founder and Director Michael Greenberger, CHHS developed the course Law and Policy of Cybersecurity for the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. CHHS will also oversee a Cybersecurity specialization for the School’s new Master of Science in Law program beginning fall 2015.

Following a letter of intent for collaboration in 2014, the two organizations have explored mutual areas of interest to cybersecurity stakeholders and supported Maryland’s efforts to be a cyber-hub. Greenberger currently serves on the Maryland Governor’s Commission on Cybersecurity Innovation and Excellence and the Baltimore-Washington Cyber Task Force. Greenberger and Len Moodispaw, CEO of KEYW, have also worked together to discuss privacy issues on local cybersecurity panels, share expertise in the media, as well as in academic settings.

CHHS looks forward to continuing the production of comprehensive cybersecurity solutions with KEYW – melding technology, policy, and training.
