Dallas Enhances Evacuation Capability From Potential Homeland Security and Natural Disasters With AmbuBus Kits

Chantilly, VA – Dallas County Schools (DCS) in Texas has taken the next steps toward preparing for disasters. DCS officials have just received 10 AmbuBus kits that will help the city respond in case of natural or man-made disaster, pandemic, or widespread evacuation. The AmbuBus kits are from First Line Technology, LLC, a small business supplier of Out of the Box Solutions based in the Washington, D.C. metro area.

The AmbuBus is a conversion kit that enables existing buses to effectively and efficiently transport special needs patients and those in need of immediate medical assistance to evacuation medical facilities. The AmbuBus has the capability to safely transport up to 18 stretchers plus medical staff and support equipment. In addition, the AmbuBus Kit can be used outside the confines of a bus to allow for additional surge capacity at hospitals in the case of pandemic or to house first responders during a natural or man-made disaster.

The 10 kits ordered by DCS will quickly and easily retrofit vehicles of opportunity – including school or mass transit buses – allowing for quicker evacuation and more effective transport in case of disaster. By using buses already in use within the county, the AmbuBus reduces cost of maintaining additional emergency vehicles while providing an innovative solution to the problem of transporting the sick, injured, and elderly in cases of extreme weather and other instances of large-scale evacuation. To achieve similar results without the assistance of these AmbuBus kits, Dallas would have to purchase and maintain dozens of expensive and traditional ambulance buses.

Dallas joins many other city and state governments around the State of Texas and United States to prepare for public health emergencies with the help of First Line and the AmbuBus kit. The AmbuBus has been deployed state-wide in Georgia, Alabama, and most recently, First Line deployed 14 kits to the Mississippi State Department of Health in preparation for hurricane season.

“AmbuBus kits are critical in any emergency plan,” said First Line President Amit Kapoor. “Dallas, working with the Texas Department of Emergency Management, has put together an effective plan to utilize AmbuBus kits with school buses to safely evacuate special needs patients in case of disasters.”
