Delhi Metro Rail Company Invests in Customer Safety With X-Ray Scanning Systems From Rapiscan Systems

Arlington, VA – Rapiscan Systems, a leading supplier of security inspection systems, today announced that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the mass transit system set up by the Government of India and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, has purchased Rapiscan advanced security screening systems for the inspection of customer baggage.  The total value of the contract is approximately $2.2m USD.

Under the terms of the contract, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has purchased multiple Rapiscan Systems 620XR checkpoint X-ray baggage scanners and Rapiscan Metor Walk-Through Metal Detectors to deploy in underground metro corridor and surface rail corridor stations throughout Delhi.  The procurement is part of a multi-phase effort by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to upgrade its security screening processes as its transit network expands, and was awarded following a competitive tender.

The contract is the latest in a series of awards that Rapiscan has received to provide protection for mass transit and other critical infrastructure protection.  For example, Rapiscan Systems X-ray scanners are deployed exclusively by SNCF, the French National Rail system.

Ajay Mehra, President of Rapiscan Systems, commented: “We are pleased that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has chosen Rapiscan Systems technology to help it improve security for the traveling public.”  Mr. Mehra continued: “The 620XRs’ and Metor Metal Detectors’ combination of outstanding detection performance, reliability and throughput makes them an excellent solution for mass transit security applications worldwide.  This award demonstrates our commitment to the Indian market and we look forward to continued growth in the region.”

The Rapiscan Systems 620XR is one of the world’s most widely deployed high performance X-ray scanning systems and is used for aviation, mass transit, event security and other mission critical security applications.  Its large tunnel dimensions allow it to efficiently scan the bags of passengers travelling by train. It is capable of quickly distinguishing organic and inorganic threats. As with all systems in Rapiscan’s 600 series, the 620XR is built on a standardised platform which makes it easy to install and maintain, and it benefits from features such as dual-energy detection, advanced image archiving, Rapiscan’s user-friendly OS600 software and a streamlined and ergonomic design.  Rapiscan’s Metor Walk Through Metal Detectors are the leading brand of high-performance metal detector systems for aviation, critical infrastructure protection and homeland security applications.
