Alexandria, VA - January 9, 2006
FBI-accredited state or local bomb squads will receive the latest version of DGI’s flagship product, CoBRA® Software, by January 2006. Over 900 state and local bomb squads originally received CoBRA® Response Kits – the software preloaded on an ultra-rugged Itronix laptop with peripherals necessary for field response – in 2001 under the auspices of the FBI’s Bomb Data Center. Through continued support by the FBI, these same squads will now receive the upgrade to CoBRA® 4.0, released in October.
The latest enhancements to the CoBRA® software are focused on two key areas – new data resources and updates to the user interface. New resources include a new bomb response profile with an IED forensics tool, a radiation stay time tool, three new Jane’s public safety handbooks and more. In addition, a tool is included that will allow the bomb technicians to pull in data from the RAD detection device used by accredited squads – the SAIC Gamma Ray Spectrometers GR130 – and send radiation reports directly to experts at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico for examination. The updated user interface will look and act like familiar Microsoft applications, making CoBRA® even more intuitive to use.
The FBI’s deployment of CoBRA® across all accredited squads has allowed for increased standardization of equipment and response collaboration during incidents. “DGI has successfully supported the FBI Bomb Data Center and state and local bomb squads under its accreditation program for over four years. We are proud to play a role in working toward better national standards and in equipping our nation’s first responders,” said Chris Boehm, CoBRA Group Vice President at Defense Group Inc. “You can tell you’re making a difference when you see render safe teams and responders across many agencies interoperating using your system at such events as the Olympic Games and the Inauguration.”
