DuPont Personal Protection Expands Its Commitment to Gulf Coast Relief Efforts with Donation of DuPont RelyOn Disinfectants and Antiseptics to New Orleans Dept. of Public Health

NEW ORLEANS, La., Oct. 14, 2005 - DuPont Personal Protection announced today that it has made a donation of its DuPont™ RelyOn™ disinfectants and antiseptics to the city of New Orleans’ Department of Public Health to assist with cleanup efforts in the region.  The donation, valued at nearly $75,000, includes antiseptic hand wipes as well as products for both small and large-scale disinfection.

“As a company with several manufacturing facilities in the Gulf Coast region, we have first-hand knowledge of the devastating impact that Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have had on the area and its residents,” said Dale Outhous, global business director of DuPont Personal Protection.  “The risks of infection and other health-related problems are extremely high right now, and no where are those threats greater than in the city of New Orleans.  That is why we felt it was important to make sure local organizations in the city have the necessary products and supplies for a safe and effective cleanup of the surrounding communities.  Today’s donation will hopefully represent an important contribution to those efforts.”

DuPont has seven facilities that were impacted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita: Pontchartrain and Burnside, La.; DeLisle and Pascagoula, Miss.; Mobile, Ala.; Sabine and Beaumont, Tx.

DuPont™ RelyOn™ brand products have been designed to offer an easy and effective way to disinfect hands and hard, non-porous surfaces and reduce the spread of germs that can cause disease and infection.  Available as sprays, wipes, powders and tablets, RelyOn™ products clean and disinfect in one step and are safe on most surfaces.  They have also been proven to be effective against a wide range of human pathogens including Hepatitis A, B, and C viruses, MRSA, VRE, Influenza, and HIV.

The distribution of DuPont™ RelyOn™ products is being coordinated locally with Hagemeyer North America.

DuPont previously announced a $1 million corporate cash contribution on Aug. 30, the bulk of which went to the American Red Cross in Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama, with priority to the communities in greatest need.  Another portion was given to the Salvation Army, which has deployed hundreds of food stations throughout the region - each capable of serving 5,000 meals a day. The balance of the DuPont contribution is being used for ongoing recovery efforts in DuPont site communities.
