BALTIMORE, MD – Governor Martin O’Malley and Harford County Executive David R. Craig today announced that Environics USA Inc., a technology company whose parent, Environics Oy, is based in Finland, has relocated its U.S. operations to Abingdon. The company, which was previously located in Port Orange, Florida, opened up a state-of-the-art manufacturing/assembly facility and laboratory on November 14. A manufacturer of chemical sensors and detection instruments and turn-key CBRN detection networks for the civil and military defense industry, the company currently has eight employees but plans to expand to as many as 20 over the next couple of years. “Environics USA is the latest in a number of international companies that have chosen Maryland as the base of the U.S. operations this year, further validation that our international outreach efforts are paying off,” said Governor O’Malley. “More than 550 foreign-owned companies call Maryland home, but with our strategic location, unique federal assets and diverse business community, we know we have just scratched the surface of what we can achieve in attracting foreign direct investment.” Commenting on the relocation of Environics’ U.S. operations to Abingdon, County Executive Craig stated, “We applaud this move by Environics Oy and look forward to the firm being part of the Harford County business community. We believe this is an outstanding business decision and will do all we can to support Environics USA as they become part of the expanding businesses relocating toHarford County.” “We’re looking forward to much success as a result of our move to Maryland,” said Markku Lento, Environics USA President and CEO. “The area offers a great deal of opportunity and we are excited to establish a “home base” here for our new multi-national office.” For additional information please contact: Christopher Wrenn Sr. Director of Sales & Marketing Environics USA Phone: 410-612-1250 Email: chris.wrenn@environicsusa.com Website: www.environicsusa.com
