SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Today, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Craig Fugate met with San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom to discuss emergency response and preparedness, as well as the mayor's focus on building upon the city's resiliency, specifically as it relates to earthquakes. Today's event was the most recent in a series of meetings between the administrator and key partners in our nation's emergency response team.
"Today's meeting with Mayor Gavin Newsom underscores the value of communication and team building ahead of emergencies or disasters," said FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate. "The more we do now to prepare as a team, the better our response to the next disaster will be. As Mayor Newsom and I discussed, the most important member of that team is the public, and the most important thing we can do is encourage the public to take steps now to prepare. I encourage everyone to visit Ready.gov and learn how you can better prepare yourself and your family for emergencies."
"Preparing for natural disasters and emergencies is one of the most important charges of government," said Mayor Newsom. "I look forward to working closely with FEMA Administrator Fugate to prepare our communities for emergencies and ensure collaboration with the Federal government."
Administrator Fugate congratulated Mayor Newsom on his preparedness efforts to date, and vowed to continue this important partnership as FEMA works to build our nation's emergency response team.
