GE Security Delivers First Handheld, Simultaneous Dual-Mode Explosives and Narcotics Trace Detector

Stafford, Va. - GE Homeland Protection Inc., a business of GE Security, Inc., a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of the General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE), today announced the launch of MobileTrace, a user-friendly trace detection instrument that, for the first time, enables simultaneous explosives and narcotics detection in a handheld device. MobileTrace facilitates detection of both narcotics and explosives in seconds and also increases the range of explosives detectable from a single sample.  MobileTrace's simultaneous dual-mode detection, combined with a state-of-the-art battery for longer life provides users the capabilities needed to stay ahead of the growing substance detection challenges of law enforcement and military operations. Based on GE Security's field-proven Ion Trap Mobility Spectrometry (ITMS®) platform, MobileTrace offers customers a reliable detection tool in a lightweight package that is intuitive, compact and easy to use, with a contemporary data display and touch-screen user interface. "With the introduction of MobileTrace, GE Homeland Protection offers the military and law enforcement communities, as well as other first responders, a handheld solution that delivers faster and better results in the field," said Dennis Cooke, president of GE Security's Homeland Protection business. "MobileTrace's dual-mode technology will help our customers conduct their detection activities more effectively and efficiently, potentially helping them to better protect our communities." As part of GE Security‚s commitment to providing integrated real world security solutions, MobileTrace is designed to interface with other systems via Ethernet or USB communication, enabling in-depth analysis and file management from remote desktops and by multiple users. GE Security developed MobileTrace under contract to the Unites States' Technical Support Working Group (TSWG) with funding support from the Joint IED Defeat Organization. TSWG is a national forum thatentifies, prioritizes, and coordinates research and development requirements for combating terrorism.  Under this effort, GE Security is developing and testing "hardened" handheld and desktop detection instruments in severe environments often faced by military personnel. MobileTrace will be on display at booth 6-S at the Force Protection Equipment Demonstration VI (FPED VI) from August 14-16 at the Stafford Regional Airport in Stafford, Virginia.
