BRADENTON, FLA. – GE’s Security business (NYSE: GE) today announced that its StoreSafe digital video recorder played a critical role in catching a suspect in an armed robbery of the Top Mark Federal Credit Union in Lima, Ohio. After credit union officials provided local media with recorded digital video footage of the actual robbery taking place, law enforcement officials received enough tips to not onlyentify the suspect, but to apprehend him within two days of the robbery in February. “The pictures from our StoreSafe recorder were very clear - clear enough that we could see where his fingerprints landed each time he touched the counter,” said Top Mark Federal Credit Union CEO Angie Maynard, who witnessed the robbery. “(The suspect) wasentified from the pictures and digital video footage that we provided to the local TV news.”The robbery was the first in the 40-plus-year history of the Lima branch of the Top Mark Federal Credit Union. Maynard said the credit union is increasing security at both its Lima and Auglaize County branches in light of the robbery.“We are installing GE color cameras at our Lima office and taking the same StoreSafe system we have in Lima and putting it in our other office,” Maynard said.Previously, the Lima office had black and white cameras and the Auglaize branch had an analog recording system.Brad Pugh of Lima Security, the company that installed the security systems at Top Mark Federal Credit Union, said making a CD of the robbery was quick and easy. The CD was later distributed to city and state police, and the FBI, and those officials shared the information with the media.“The FBI agent said he hadn’t worked with such clear pictures in a long time,” Pugh said. With a capacity for 16 cameras, the StoreSafe pro II digital video recorder (SDVR) is an easy to use, standalone, full-featured Triplex (view/record/play simultaneously) multiplexer and digital recorder that provides twice the recording capacity of traditional standalone security systems by employing enhanced JPG2000 compression technology. It saves weeks, even months, of high-quality video on hard drives with capacities up to 600 GB.About GE’s Security BusinessGE’s Security business is a wholly owned subsidiary of the General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) focused on communication and information technologies for security, safety and lifestyle enhancements.
