ICx Technologies Biodefense Announces Contract Win and Holds Successful Media Event

On Feb. 22, ICx Technologies Bio Defense announced that it had won a $2.3 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to develop a modular detection system intended to protect U.S. troops in the battlefield from potential bio-threats. The announcement came during a press conference, which included a mock bio-terror attack and remarks by New Mexico Congresswoman Heather Wilson. The event attracted wide, local media coverage, as well as political leaders from the region including representatives from the offices of Senators Domenici and Bingaman, the Albuquerque Mayors office and the Governors office. The venture capital and technology start-up community were also in attendance. Local affiliates for CBS, ABC and Univision were there, and filmed Congresswoman Wilson spraying an unidentified chemical agent into the air, followed by a demonstration of the capabilities of the AirSentinel. Reporters appreciated the unique visuals, and their stories ran locally on both the 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. news programs. The Albuquerque Journal and the New Mexico Business Journal also covered the event. In addition to the demonstration, Chuck Call and Ezra Merrill were interviewed, as was the Congresswoman. Dobie McCarther (from ICx DC office) and Congresswoman Wilsons assistant gave Spanish language interviews to Univision.
