Intergraph Provides Situational Awareness Tools for Security & Emergency Response Exercises

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., - Intergraph Corporation today announced its participation in the Vigilant Shield exercise, a U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM) exercise that is one is a series of national training exercises focusing on national security and emergency response. In conjunction with key U.S. federal, state, and local government agencies, Intergraph is providing situational awareness software tools to help train responders, facilitating preparedness for emergency situations.The Vigilant Shield exercise, which occured in December 2006, simulates several concurrent and related incidents.  Intergraph’s situational awareness technologies will deliver common operating picture maps for the 5th Army and their Exercise Control cell.  This common operating picture will empower responders to analyze, manage and respond to the situation based on a visual representation of complex data. Intergraph provides software tools, support and training to numerous exercises on a national, regional, and local level under its partnership with the Aviation and Missile Research, Development & Engineering Command and Warfighter Protection & Homeland Security Laboratory through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement.In September, Intergraph conducted a response scenario of a chemical release at Rock Island Arsenal and the Midwest Regional Operations Center (MROC). The first such activity for the Regional Operations Center, the exercise utilized models and simulations to create a realistic, yet cost effective, scenario. While executed in Illinois, the scenario was driven remotely from Alabama’s Redstone Arsenal via a mobile simulation capability developed by Warfighter Protection and Homeland Security Laboratory. According to Terry McMaster, acting fire chief, Rock Island Arsenal Fire and Emergency services, “The Warfighter Protection Lab facilitated a functional exercise that put the Garrison’s emergency response abilities to the test.  Through the use of [Intergraph’s] advanced technologies, the Rock Island Arsenal was brought to a new level of readiness and is better equipped to facilitate the needs of the Emergency First Responders to protect critical missions, protect life, and preserve property and the environment.”“The Warfighter Protection Lab is pleased to continue working with Intergraph in support of these critical homeland defense exercises.
