Every year beginning this fall through 2014, three Anne Arundel Community College students enrolled in the Registered Nursing program will receive a $3,000 scholarship to offset their educational costs, thanks to a generous new scholarship program set up by Johns Hopkins HealthCare (JHHC).
JHHC has established the Johns Hopkins Healthcare Nursing Scholarship to benefit students who demonstrate financial need as established by the AACC Financial Aid Office, are Anne Arundel County residents and enrolled in the college Registered Nursing Associate of Science Degree program.
“We view AACC as a true community partner,” said Maura Walden, director of corporate training and organization development and director of community relations for Johns Hopkins HealthCare LLC. “Over the years we have mutually supported one another’s needs and, from my perspective, it has resulted in a win-win for both the college and Hopkins. We are excited by the opportunity to help deserving nursing students obtain their educational goals.”

These scholarships will make a huge difference for our students and enable them to concentrate on their studies.”
AACC’s rigorous program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission and approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing. The college admits a new nursing degree each fall and spring and partners with area health care employers who provide sites for supervised clinical nursing experiences. AACC graduates will help offset a shortage of nurses, which the Maryland Hospital Association estimates will reach 10,000 by 2016.
JHHC, which is located in Glen Burnie, was established in 1995 as a partnership between the Johns Hopkins Health System and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine to provide a full spectrum of health care products and services. It develops and coordinates contractual health care relationships with managed care groups, government programs, employers and health care providers to provide services to more than 200,000 individuals through three health plans by offering operational and clinical programs.
