L-3 Announces Broad Deployment of ProVision Checkpoint Screening Systems

WOBURN, Mass. – L-3 Security & Detection Systems announced today that more than 170 ProVision® passenger screening systems have been installed at airport checkpoints in the United States. The deployment of these systems is part of the Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) order from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). By the end of 2010, nearly 250 ProVision systems will be deployed to U.S. airports.

“We are proud to support the first phase of TSA’s efforts to safeguard the traveling public at airports throughout the United States,” said Thomas M. Ripp, president of L-3 Security & Detection Systems. “L-3’s ProVision is an upgradeable technology platform, and we are pleased to continue to work closely with TSA to provide technology that will detect an even broader range of emerging aviation threats.”

The millimeter wave (MMW) technology in the ProVision system utilizes safe radio waves to detect threats that may be hidden under a passenger’s clothing. A broad variety of concealed materials, including both metallic and non-metallic threat items, can be detected using the ProVision screener.

More than 500 ProVision units have been deployed at U.S. and international airports and other facilities, including federal and state courthouses, correctional institutions, embassies, and border crossings.
