CHICAGO, IL – Loyola University is expanding its use of the RealView, LLC’s CommandScopeTM Pre-Plan technology to cover the 61-acre medical campus in nearby Maywood. This expansion underscores the school’s commitment creating a safe environment by providing critical campus and building information to first responders in case of an emergency.
Medical buildings have the potential to be some of the most hazardous due to the storage of chemicals and biohazards on site. By adopting CommandScope, Loyola provides campus and city first responders instant en route and on-site access to site plans, floor plans, hazardous material details, utility shut-off locations, campus maps, fire hydrants locations, and other critical building information. The expansion also makes the Loyola University Health System the first hospital in the nation to implement a complete pre-plan program.
“The buildings on our medical campus also house those who are most vulnerable to building emergencies – our patients,” says Steve Bergfeld, chief operating officer, Loyola Health Sciences Division of Loyola University Chicago. “The expansion of CommandScope highlight’s our continued commitment to safety for all students, staff and patients. The information delivered to security area touch screens and mobile computers results in a smarter, more effective emergency response.”
CommandScope technology is simple and easy to use. It also is shareable, so even first responders unfamiliar with an emergency site will have working knowledge of the building, its occupants and its hazards. They are prepared to act with knowledge rather than trial and error, saving time and lives.
“First responders continuously answer the call to duty by putting themselves at risk to keep us safe,” says Stephen Nardi, president of RealView, LLC. “We designed CommandScope with the mindset that this is an advantage first responders need and deserve. We are excited to see this technology embraced by Loyola and expect it to become a staple on other campuses, as well.
The 13-building Loyola medical campus is comprised of the Loyola University Health System and the Loyola University Health Sciences Division – both highly-regarded institutions. The Health System is housed in eight buildings that make up Loyola University Hospital and the Ronald McDonald Children’s Hospital.
Among the five Health Sciences Division buildings are the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, Stritch School of Medicine/Cuneo Center, and the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center. The Health System and its partners Loyola University and CHE-Trinity recently broke ground on a building to house the new Center for Transitional Research and Education enterprise. Through the user-friendly CommandScope software, all of the new building’s critical information also will get uploaded for first responder access.
In 2010, Loyola became the first college in the United States to digitize plans of its campuses, having done so for the 80-plus buildings on its Loyola Lake Shore and Loyola Water Tower campus.
