Markland Anticipates Licensing Acoustic Core(tm) Illicit Materials Detection Technology for Homeland Security Applications

RIDGEFIELD, Conn., Feb 3, 2004 - Markland Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: MRKL) an integrated homeland security company, announced today it plans to license its Acoustic Core(TM) illicit materials detection technology to potential interested parties while gaining patent protection for its APTIS(TM) screening portal in 2004. The company plans to begin an aggressive marketing effort to license its emerging technologies portfolio of patents to industry leaders in the homeland defense sector.

Markland will target companies that can exploit Acoustic Core's(TM) unique ability to detect non- metallic threats carried by humans. In parallel to this marketing effort the company has also applied for patent protection for its APTIS(TM) screening portal product design concept.

The company's Acoustic Core(TM) technology has been developed over the last decade to address shortcomings in screening equipment such as those which exist in the marketplace for detection of illicit materials and non-metallic threats carried by humans.

The APTIS(TM) screening portal is being designed to perform primary screening of humans for the detection of concealed weapon threats. The device incorporates multi-sensor data fusion techniques which combine conventional metal detection technology with Acoustic Core(TM) based detection of non-metallic threats.

The initial phase of APTIS(TM) testing has been successfully completed. During this phase testing goals were to be able to detect, beneath clothing on a stationary human, the presence of three target types: a plastic flare gun, a ceramic knife and a surrogate target, which simulated plastic explosives in sheet form.

Robert Tarini, CEO of Markland stated, "During 2003 we have successfully created a sustained revenue base from our Border Security and Chemical Detector business segments. Our goal in 2004 is to grow this revenue base and to also create a sustained revenue stream from our Advanced Technologies business segment. It is anticipated that this revenue stream from our Advanced Technologies business segment will occur in the form of royalty and licensing revenues derived from our growing patent portfolio."
