MSU Holds Leadership Conference

BECKLEY- Mountain State University’s School of Leadership and Professional Development will hold the second annual Leadership Link conference, Wednesday, May 12 through Saturday, May 15 at the Resort at Glade Springs, Daniels, W.Va.

Keynote speakers for the event include: Dr. Denis Onieal, Superintendent of the National Fire Academy; Brig. Gen. Timothy J. Kadavy, Deputy Director for the National Guard Bureau in Washington, D.C.; Dr. Charles H. Polk, President of Mountain State University; and Isaac H. Manning, President of Trinity Works.

Dr. Onieal has served as Superintendent of the National Fire Academy since 1995. As Superintendent, he leads a uniformed force of more than 600 firefighters and officers. Beginning Sept.12, 2001, he led the U.S. Fire Administration’s team at the World Trade Center, working behind the scenes to assist the New York City Fire Department in re-establishing command, control and on-site communications. In 2005, he led the processing, training and dispatch of 4,000 firefighters summoned by FEMA to assist in the response to Hurricane Katrina.

Brig. Gen. Kadavy became Deputy Director for the National Guard Bureau on Aug. 26, 2009. As Deputy Director, he is responsible for assisting the Director in formulating, developing and coordinating all programs, policies and plans affecting the Army National Guard and its more than 350,000 citizen soldiers. He served as Adjutant General of Nebraska prior to joining the National Guard Bureau. Kadavy has over 25 years of military experience and has served in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iraq.

Dr. Polk became President of Mountain State University in 1990 and is credited with turning a fading two-year college into a thriving university. He came to MSU from Daytona Beach Community College, where he became the youngest college president in the U.S. in 1974.

Manning has over 20 years of experience in real estate development and has acquired a global network of relationships across disciplines. He holds the title of President of Trinity Works, a real estate development company focusing on the integration of investment, innovation and implementation, and is currently working with the Boy Scouts of America in establishing The Summit: Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve. The 10,600 acre site near Beckley will become the permanent home to the National Scout Jamboree.

Faculty and current students in the School of Leadership and Professional Development will also give presentations during the conference.

Registration for the entire conference is $125, but attendees also have the option of registering for one day of the conference.
