Riverhead, N.Y. – A new, fully online graduate-level advanced certificate program from Long Island University’s Homeland Security Management Institute will prepare managers, executives, and homeland security and defense professionals to protect their organizations from cyber attacks.

The 15-credit Advanced Certificate in Cyber Security Policy, approved in March 2012 by the New York State Education Department and offered beginning in the summer 2012 semester, is designed and taught by leading experts in cyber security.

Faculty members include Steven Bucci, thought leader and issue lead for cyber at IBM and former deputy assistant secretary of defense; Stanley Supinski, former dean of faculty at the Air Force Academy and deputy for education and training at the U.S. Northern Command; Frederick Ferrer, director of cyberspace and information decision dominance at ARINC, Inc. and retired Air Force intelligence officer, and other leaders in the military, cyber security, law enforcement and private sector security.

Courses include Introduction to Homeland Security Management, Constitutional Issues in Homeland Security Management, Cyber Security: Issues, Policy and Terrorism, Advanced Cyber Security Policy and Intelligence, and Advanced Cyber Security – Technology Issues for Policy Makers.  All five courses in the 15-credit Advanced Certificate in Cyber Security Policy are fully applicable as the core curriculum of the Institute’s existing 36-credit Master of Science in Homeland Security Management degree program, permitting students to earn both the Advanced Certificate and the Master’s degree without any loss of credits.

Founded in 2004, the Homeland Security Management Institute was one of the first institutions in the United States to offer a graduate degree in the Homeland Security field.  A Congressionally-designated US Department of Homeland Security academic Center of Excellence, the institute remains a leader in its field and is the only DHS Center of Excellence to offer a graduate degree in the Homeland Security field.  In addition to the new Advanced Certificate in Cyber Security Policy, the institute offers the 36-credit Master of Science in Homeland Security Management and the 15-credit Advanced Certificate in Homeland Security Management.
