NIMS Integration Center and Emergency Management Institute Release New Online Training Course on NIMS Resource Management

WASHINGTON - The Federal Emergency Management Agency's NIMS Integration Center and Emergency Management Institute have made available online, interactive Web-based training that will help incident managers establish NIMS-related systems that will help them get the resources they need to respond to an emergency or disaster. Resource management is an ongoing process that establishes systems to describe, inventory, request and track resources. The systems are used during deployment or recall of resources in connection with an incident. Resource management is a key component of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), which standardizes the procedures and functions involved in the resource management process. NIMS resource management provides a uniform way toentify, acquire, allocate and track resources including personnel, teams, equipment and supplies.  It is tied to mutual aid, resource typing, the use of common terminology and credentialing.  Primary tasks addressed in the course, which is called IS-703 NIMS Resource Management, involve establishing systems to describe, inventory, request and track resources; activate the systems and dispatch resources prior  to and during an incident; and deactivation or recall of resources. The course demonstrates how resources, such as personnel, teams, facilities, equipment and supplies, are managed through advance planning, resourceentification and ordering, categorizing resources, use of agreements, acquisition management, management information systems, and protocols for ordering, mobilizing and dispatching.   Access to the Web Course:  To take the course online go to  <http://training.fema.gov/emiweb/is/is703.asp> http://training.fema.gov/emiweb/is/is703.asp.   Course Length:  Approximately three to four hours.  Audience: Government, private-sector, and nongovernmental organization individuals and teams who are charged with working together in a network to manage resources during domestic incidents.     Course Goal:   To enable incident managers, logistics managers, and other state, local or tribal officials to plan for, manage and implement resource management systems for times of crisis and disaster.   room Course:  Although it is designed to be taken online as an interactive web-based course, room materials for this course are under development.  When available, materials may be downloaded for instructors to deliver to groups.  To obtain scoring sheets for the test, course managers may call the EMI Independent Study Program Office at 301 447-1256.   Questions?  Contact the EMI course manager, Tom Gilboy, at 301-447-1535 or  <mailto:tom.gilboy@dhs.gov> tom.gilboy@dhs.gov.   ###www.fema.gov/emergency/nims
