Over 100 L-3 VIS-108 Explosives Detection Systems Upgraded to VIS-HR EU Standard 2-Approved Systems

WOBURN, Mass. – L-3 Security & Detection Systems announced today that over 100 of its VIS-108™ automated explosives detection systems (EDS) have been upgraded to VIS-HR™ EDS systems that meet EU Standard 2 requirements. The VIS-HR field upgrade process consists of replacing select software and hardware components, and can be completed with minimal interruption to screening operations.

“Airports are facing tough economic challenges, and L-3 offers a best-value solution to protect their investment in the VIS platform,” said Thomas M. Ripp, president of L-3 Security & Detection Systems. “Customers can extend the life of their installed base, reduce capital investment and enhance their security operations through an easy field upgrade from the VIS-108 to the VIS-HR.”

The VIS-HR builds on L-3’s industry-leading technology with advanced explosives detection, clear images and throughput rates up to 1,800 bags per hour. This multi level system makes fast, accurate, automated decisions and provides image analysts with the data they need to render their Level 2 decision while continuing to screen luggage without impeding the baggage flow and sorting process. The lightweight VIS-HR is the best choice for space-conscious airport screening operations that require fast, powerful explosives detection. It has the smallest footprint of any EU Standard 2-compliant system.
