Praetorian Successfully Strengthens Super Bowl Defense

Miami, FL,  – SYColeman, a division of L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL), announced today the successful demonstration and implementation of Praetorian, a next-generation intelligent video surveillance system, at Super Bowl XLI in Miami. In conjunction with the Miami-Dade Police and Fire Departments, Praetorian’s Hawk™ (a multiple-site surveillance information monitoring and management platform) and VisionAlert™ (an advanced video analytics and alert system) were used by S.A.F.E. (Security, Athletic Facilities & Events) Management and Alpha Security Products, Inc. to monitor and secure events leading up to the Super Bowl as well as during the game itself.  “We were proud to be part of the team securing this high profile event,” said Lt. General Jared Bates, U.S. Army (Retired), President, SYColeman.  “In today’s world, the need to think about security at great sporting events like the Super Bowl is an unfortunate reality.  The technical challenge is to manage all the streams of disparate surveillance information into a real-time, easy to understand, and actionable format.  The ultimate goal is to act preemptively against emerging threats.”In use on-site since January 21st, the Praetorian system was deployed for early warning perimeter protection, giving operators the ability to detect a breach or unauthorized motion in critical event areas.  Praetorian also helped increase public safety, applying sophisticated video analytics to cameras in parking lots, outlying areas, the NFL Store and The NFL Experience – an 850,000 square foot theme park – allowing for easy detection of loitering, left-behind objects, and other aberrant crowd behavior.  The system provided for swift, proactive action in even the most densely populated event sites.“One of Praetorian’s greatest values is its ability to increase situational awareness and surveillance capability.  The system works to support in-the-field personnel and is capable of mitigating security risks and concerns at large venues,” added Bates, “This demonstration clearly validated Praetorian’s capabilities in terms relevant to the needs of stadium managers – both today and in the future.”Following the game, SYColeman/Praetorian will provide the NFL with a complete vulnerability and threat assessment. Using Hawk™, operators are able to monitor multiple sites worldwide in real-time, and direct first responders to facilities where events are occurring - even thousands of miles away - thereby reducing the costs and labor necessary to oversee the greatly enhanced security of remote locations. When deployed, Hawk™ provides for tactical threat, pattern recognition and forensic analysis on a site-by-site or global basis. This enables decision-makers to act as a true team, with a shared understanding of the total operational environment. Once alerts areentified, the data can be transmitted (with video) to local threat response centers as well as to police, fire and other security and safety forces, for informed analysis and therefore accurate, commensurate responses.VIDEO FLASHLIGHT™ is the world’s only 3D video surveillance interface and information monitoring platform.  The system fuses multiple video feeds into a single-screen, real-time immersive display of an operational environment using 3D imaging technology.  Whereas standard CCTV surveillance systems are viewed on banks of video monitors – making it nearly impossible to manage, understand, and respond to the volume of disparate information presented – Video Flashlight™ enables operators to see the total picture and “virtually patrol” security areas easily moving throughout the 3D environment.  End-users navigate indoors to outdoors and around corners, flying from rooftop to street level, and reviewing recorded video from different perspectives.VISIONALERT™ transforms conventional surveillance systems into an intelligent video analytic and multi-sensor solution. Through customizable, user-defined alarm configurations for real-time detection of motion, breach, loiter, and left-behind objects, VisionAlert™ delivers operators greater situational awareness and the visual verification needed for preemptive action – even against multiple simultaneous threats.  Unlike other video analytic software, VisionAlert™ is capable of programming all four detection categories, and up to six settings of alarms, on a single camera - providing a virtual surveillance shield around the selected site.About L-3 CommunicationsHeadquartered in New York City, L-3 Communications is a leading provider of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) systems, secure communications systems, aircraft modernization, training and government services.
