Radiation Detection Equipment from ICx Technologies Field-Tested in International Airport

ARLINGTON, Va. – ICx Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq GM: ICXT), announced today that it has completed the initial portion of the radiation detection testing as part of the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) International Commercial Aviation Passenger and Baggage (Pax/Bag) Pilot program.  As part of this field test, multiple Stride™ detection units were installed at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, which has been experiencing high volumes of traffic to Vancouver, in order to monitor passengers and carry-on luggage for the presence of illicit radioactive material.

The covert movement of special nuclear materials or weapons into populated areas represents a great potential threat.  In addition to traditional detection capabilities, Stride systems can effectivelyentify, ify and track the movement of radioactive sources within the area the units are installed. As part of the field test, Stride systems were installed along both passenger and carry-on luggage pathways within international terminals, providing detection andentification of isotopes.

“We are very pleased with the performance of our Stride systems deployed in an airport setting where large numbers of people are moving through the area,” said Barry Stanner, general manager of ICx Radiation, a business unit of ICx Technologies.

Stride systems provide complete ‘out-of-the-box’ radiation detection, entification and localization functionality and can be easily tailored to diverse, unique security requirements.  The systems have been designed to be deployed either openly or covertly, depending upon the screening scenario.  In addition to Stride Systems, ICx has other technologies currently being used at airports for passenger and carry-on luggage screening, including the Fido® PaxPoint™ handheld liquids screener and theentiFINDER® handheld radiation detector.
