Rockland County, N.Y., Resident to Walk 27 Miles to Help Wounded Veterans
On March 25, 2007, former United States Marine and Rockland County, NY resident, Brian Gallagher, will execute a 27-mile road march from Rockland to Westchester County, NY.The “Rock to West” march, which will begin in Thiells, NY and end in Ossining, NY, was created to build awareness for The Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes. This non-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization was created to provide a meaningful way for individuals, corporations and others to help severely wounded and disabled Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans and their families rebuild their lives. “It is my personal goal to raise $25,000 through my road march for the Coalition,” says Mr. Gallagher, who estimates that it will take him at least 10-12 hours to complete the 27-mile one-man march. “I allotted enough time to complete this in case of bad weather.” He plans to go forward with this road march regardless of the weather conditions that day. The march will also lend itself to a high level of patriotism. Mr. Gallagher plans to carry the unit guidon from 3rd Battalion 7th Marines, Kilo Company. The guidon will honor Marine Corporal Jason Dunham who was nominated to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions in Iraq by President Bush on November 10, 2006. Corporal Dunham, a member of 3rd Battalion 7th Marines, Kilo Company, resided in Scio, NY. “There would be no greater honor than to carry the representation of an individual’s unselfish actions to protect his fellow Marines,” says Mr. Gallagher. “He elected to extend his enlistment shortly before he died so he can ensure that everyone came home alive. This clearly shows how the actions of one man can mean so much to so many.” Interested individuals or corporations are urged to help support this march with making a donation at www.rocktowest.org Corporate sponsorships are also available.
