Lod, Israel, November 14, 2007. Rontal Applications Ltd. (www.rontal.com), a developer and provider of innovative incident management and operational continuity systems, today announced a personal digital assistant (PDA)-based handheld extension to its SimGuard incident management system. The new handheld extension greatly improves the system’s command and control capabilities. The PDA-based solution allows SimGuard’s operators to transmit a real time updated situation picture, including instructions and high-resolution images and/or video clips, to field security employees and to managers who must take up posts in the field, during emergency situations. The timely and geographically accurate information enables dispatched teams to quickly achieve full situation awareness, complete understanding and to respond in the best way to any given incident. Furthermore, the shared picture creates a common language between all players, thus expediting reaction and minimizing risk and damage. On the other hand, field security personnel and decision-makers on the scene can update SimGuard’s operator in real time with all relevant missing information. The PDAs complement the coverage of the various sensors, including cameras, fences, access control devices, GPS, fire alarm sensors, intrusion detection devices, etc. In addition, PDAs equipped with GPS/RFID modules serve as a position location and navigation device. Using PDAs enhances the receiving of critical information by decision makers, leading to better understanding of the situation and to optimal decisions. “The new handheld extension greatly improves the response capability of security personnel in any emergency situation, enhancing situation assessment and handling,” says Eli Passi, head of Rontal’s product group. “Issuing prompt information and instructions to PDA-equipped field security personnel is critical in emergency situations, where every second counts.” SimGuard encompasses the four phases of incident management preparation and handling: planning, training, real-time and debriefing. In the planning phase, a virtual reality model of the actual facility or campus is built into SimGuard's database, allowing a virtual installation of numerous kinds of sensors. Once that has been completed, SimGuard assesses the vulnerability of the relevant site. Security managers may conduct simulations for different potential scenarios for security, safety, facility management, general operations, and operational continuity. The training phase includes a series of simulated incidents using 3D models, allowing users to gain an early understanding of security and safety situations before they occur. In the real time mode of operation, SimGuard gathers information from all available sensors, fusing and presenting it on one Situational Awareness display. This display enables the operator rapidly to understand the implications of an incident, entify the relevant scenario from the scenario library, and predict the potential impact on normal site operations. The system advises the operator as to what optimal course of action should be taken. The debriefing mode allows safety and security management personnel to learn from the real time incidents and other events by analyzing them and the behavior of security teams during their mission.
