Sceptor Announces OMNI2 Portable Air Sampler With Sample ID Tracking, Particle Counter
KANSAS CITY, MO — Sceptor Industries has announced a new portable air sampler, the OMNI2™, which automatically tracks sample numbers and collection data to maintain “chain of custody” integrity throughout the sampling process. The OMNI2 also incorporates a particle counter and the ability to measure temperature and relative humidity to allow users to characterize their environment before and during sampling.A prototype of the OMNI2 will be shown in Sceptor’s booth (158) at the IAQA Annual Meeting and Exposition in Nashville, TN October 25-27, 2006.
To implement sample tracking, each OMNI2 sample cartridge is electronically tagged with a unique serial number. The OMNI2 reads the number at the start of collection, and records it in the unit’s data log along with collection data, which can include temperature, humidity, particle counts, sample time, flow rate, and date of collection. Even the user can be assigned an and logged for each sample run.
The data log can be transferred via a built-in USB port to a PC for reporting, archiving, and generation of Chain of Custody documents“Now first responders and indoor air quality professionals can focus on the crucial task of air sampling instead of on record-keeping,” said Lisa Rogers, VP Commercial. “The OMNI2 turns chain-of-custody sample tracking from a time-consuming manual procedure into a fast, accurate, automatic process.” The OMNI2 also features real-time display of airflow, particle count, and environmental conditions on its user interface so that users can verify proper operation during sampling. Onboard decontamination and airflow calibration are performed by a mere push of a button.Since the OMNI2 is an upgraded version of Sceptor’s standard OMNI™ 3000 air sampler, it offers the same high collection efficiency and concentration rate of the basic model. Specifications include a collection efficiency of 65% in the crucial 0.5 to1µm particle size range. Independent tests have measured efficiencies of up to approximately 80% with 0.5µm particle sizes, and approximately 65% with Aspergillus fumigatus spores. The OMNI2’s SpinCon® technology combines 300L/minute flow rates with the ability to concentrate particulates to levels hundreds of times higher than other aerosol collection methods. Its high airflow and small sample media volume, combined with its collection efficiency, produces unprecedented aerosol collection performance. The OMNI2 is designed to meet the need of first responders, environmental health and safety (EHS) managers, and indoor air quality (IAQ) experts for an easily portable, high-performance aerosol collector for use in chemical, bioaerosol, and biothreat detection. It can capture particles in sizes from 10µm to vapors, enabling the collection of molds, viruses, bacteria, and low vapor-pressure chemical compounds and particulates.Information sheets and unit specifications are available on the Sceptor web site or by contacting the company.
