April 4, 2007, Washington, DC - Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D - NY) today released a letter honoring the work of public safety communications professionals. The letter comes just days before the kick-off of National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, a week set aside by Congress and celebrated by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International and the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) to pay tribute the work public safety communications professionals. "Issues of homeland security, natural disasters, and the daily emergencies that are part of our nation's every day reality remind us of the importance of our public safety communications professionals," Senator Clinton said. "Telecommunications professionals are the first line of communication with the public, from a hurricane or terrorist threat to a local 9-1-1emergency, providing our citizens with a soothing voice, a steady hand, and life-saving information. This nation's public safety communications personnel display tremendous courage every day and their efforts merit recognition." APCO International and NENA are starting this year's festivities with a Press Conference and Communications Center Tour, Thurs., April 5, at 10:00a.m. at the Fairfax County Department of Public Safety Communications in Annandale, Va. The event will bring public attention to Nation al Pub lic Safety Telecommunications Week and the important work of public safety communications professionals.
