Release Date: January 16, 2008 Release Number: R10-08-048 SEATTLE, Wash. - Federal Emergency Management Agency Regional Administrator Susan Reinertson has announced the appointment of Patrick Massey as the new Federal Preparedness Coordinator (FPC) for FEMA Region X, a jurisdiction which includes the states of Alaska,aho, Oregon and Washington.  According to Reinertson, the new position is designed to enhance regional preparedness capabilities. "The FPC is an integral part of FEMA's vision to further strengthen regional offices," said Reinertson.  "Pat will be responsible for strengthening, integrating, and institutionalizing this region's preparedness efforts to prevent, protect against and recover from threatened or actual disasters." Massey has held several disaster preparedness positions while at FEMA as well as at state and local government, and trained as a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Officer in the United States Army.  He is a Senior Fellow at the Washington D.C. Council for Excellence in Government, holds a Bachelor of Science in Advanced Technical Studies-Electrical Engineering Technology and a Masters of Arts (M.A.) in  Environmental Planning from Southern Illinois University, and a M.A. in Security Studies-Homeland Security and Defense from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterrey, California. FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
