Thermo Electron Unveils Model 6600 Plus Passive Dosimetry System at 14th Annual International Conference on Solid State Dosimetry

New Haven, CT, International Conference on Solid State Dosimetry – Thermo Electron Corporation, a leader in radiation measurement and protection equipment, today introduced the newest addition to the company’s line of dosimetry solutions, the Model 6600 Plus Passive Dosimetry System.

Extending Thermo’s proven excellence in high-quality dosimetry solutions, the Model 6600 Plus is the most technically advanced and automated solution available, setting a new standard for passive dosimetry and providing a single vendor for all active and passive dosimetry requirements. Designed for nuclear power plants, government organizations and mid-sized processing facilities world wide, the Model 6600 Plus offers unmatched automation and flexibility while ensuring the highest quality dosimetry, Mean Time Between Failure (MBTF) and reliability in the industry.

“With the introduction of the Model 6600 Plus, our customers are adding a highly advanced tool to their arsenal, providing a streamlined and cost-effective approach to meeting their dosimetry needs,” said Chris Yessayan, General Manager of Thermo Electron Radiation Measurement and Protection.

The Model 6600 Plus is an integrated dosimetry solution that includes Windows Acquisition and Control software and dose calculation algorithms in addition to technical support and services. Further, since the foundation of the Model 6600 Plus is Thermo Electron’s own LiF:Mg,Cu,P TL dosimetry material, or TLD-100H, the Model 6600 Plus offers flat energy dependence, insignificant fade for over 180 days and linearity to 20 Sv, eliminating challenges of previous dosimetry systems based on other materials such as Al2O3:C. In addition, TLD- 100H is not photosensitive so the operation of the system does not require a darkroom like other technologies such as Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL).

The Model 6600 Plus Passive Dosimetry System allows nuclear power plants, government organizations and mid-sized processing facilities to save money on operational costs and maintenance due to the high reliability and automation of the system, making the product a strong option for facilities currently outsourcing their dosimetry. Preliminary customer feedback and experience indicate that the Model 6600 Plus has the highest MTBF in the industry, leading to reduced downtime for better cost efficiency, and increased customer satisfaction. The Model 6600 Plus also includes extensive automated quality control features which reduce operator learning curve and ensure quality dosimetric results, whether in short term dosimetry situations, such as power plant outages to quickly check worker doses, or for normal monitoring periods.

Adding to the product’s strength in the market, the Model 6600 Plus monitors whole body, extremity and environmental doses with a single instrument, reducing complexity and costs inherent in other types of radiation monitoring systems. Further, the Model 6600 Plus provides monitoring capabilities for betas, gamma, neutrons and x-rays through a single reader for operational simplicity – flexibility not possible with traditional non-TLD systems.

The Model 6600 Plus also provides unmatched flexibility with regard to calibration, putting the control in the hands of the operator. The Model 6600 Plus allows users to determine calibration timing through built-in automatic individual calibration capabilities and does not rely on antiquated “batch” calibration factors like film or OSL.

Note: The M6600 Plus exceeds all applicable IEC, ISO and ANS I performance requirements.
