He also has served as a volunteer Hazmat Specialist for the USAR-PRTF1 and is currently a consultant to that unit; he has assisted during a number of major disasters including the response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks - during which he was stationed on-site in New York City.

Battelle has announced the company's winning of a $36.7 million contract to support the Department of Defense (DOD) by developing medical countermeasures to chemical warfare threats.
