Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano has announced the release of the Department's Northern Border Strategy (NBS). The NBS is the first unified DHS strategy to guide the Department's policies and operations along the U.S.-Canada border - providing a framework for enhancing security and resiliency while expediting lawful travel and trade throughout the Northern border region.
FLIR Systems Inc. has announced that it has been awarded an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract from the U.S. Army to support the MEDEVAC program. The contract, valued at $38 million, is for spare components for Star SAFIRE® II stabilized multi-sensor systems that are installed on the Army's fielded MEDEVAC Blackhawk helicopters.

The United States and Canada have announced that both governments agreed to the mutual recognition of, and cooperation on, air cargo security in both countries. Under the new mutual recognition initiative, cargo shipped on passenger aircraft will be screened at the point of origin and will not need to be rescreened at the border or prior to upload in the other country.
Maryland's Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services (HCDFRS), a nationally accredited department, has announced its implementation of the CommandScope All Hazard Pre-Incident Plan program to help protect nearly 300,000 residents in 25 communities. CommandScope gives first responders access to critical pre-plan information, both on-site and en route, on their Mobile Data Computers (MDCs).
Conditions in the atmosphere and the ocean favor a near-normal hurricane season in the Atlantic Basin this season, announced representatives from The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), in Miami at its Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory, and home to the Hurricane Research Division.
Hurricane Season begins June 1, 2012, FEMA is providing additional tools for federal, state, local, tribal & territorial officials to alert and warn the public about severe weather. Using the Commercial Mobile Alert System, or CMAS, which is a part of FEMA's Integrated Public Alert and Warning System, this structure will be used to deliver Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) to wireless carriers for distribution to the public.
