Successful DHS Field Test of Wide-Area Airborne Surveillance System Assists CBP in Arizona

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has recently concluded a successful field test in Arizona of a wide area airborne surveillance system (WAASS) using, for the first time, a tethered aerostat platform. The WAASS sensor - consisting of a wide area imager called "Kestrel" and a spotter camera for close-up images - was tested by the DHS Science & Technology Directorate (S&T), and was created in partnership with DHS's U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) agency to assess the operational value of WAASS technology in strengthening U.S. border security.

TSA PreCheck Begins at Ronald Reagan Washington National & Chicago O'Hare International

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has launched TSA PreCheck operations at the Ronald Reagan Washington National (DCA) and Chicago O'Hare International (ORD) airports. In addition, active-duty service members in the U.S. Armed Forces are now eligible to receive the same expedited screening benefits when flying out of DCA as part of TSA PreCheck. TSA has worked closely with the Department of Defense to implement these screening procedures for service members.
